Three very good sites exist that I have found, in order of likely consideration for us. Like I initially said, I want CANNED stuff, in CANS not in quart or pint jars. While jars are okay for the garden variety people, they would not be good for survival scenarios for obvious reasons.

1. http://www.ehcan.com/CanneryInABox.html outstanding! Get a group of people together and can your own stuff. This is what is shipped to UDC's to help them out. In the vicinity of 20k to 35k. The price of a car. Yes it is expensive, but three of four families could coop and afford one.
2. http://www.aaoobfoods.com/cansealers.htm for multi-family projects
3. http://www.bajajmachines.com/canning-equipment.html

These sites have the proper canning gear from the multi-family size up to commercial level mass corporated level.

Canning into cans is not generally for a single family size.

But cans are much more durable than glass containers.

On the other hand a group could purchase substantial canned food stocks for ten people for about 30k (using 3k each as a guide and more if $1500 is used). The disadvantage is once this food is gone, it is gone and you have nothing left but empty cans.

Stocked food supplies must be under the context that they exist only as a temporary option - to get us through whatever befalls us.

Plans MUST be made to house non-hybrid seeds to regrow foods stuffs after things settle down.
